  1. My thoughts are with all those affected, both directly and indirectly. I have been going to Shoreham airport since I was very young, and having been educated at Lancing College it always felt like “my” air show. Now living in Somerset this year was the first time I had persuaded my 2 daughters to come with me to an air show, and it was a great shock to us all. Condolences to all the families and friends. Jon

I think also of those who were injured and those traumatised by what they saw. At the age of 6 my father was going to take me to the Farnborough Air Show on the day that John Derry and his navigator were killed in the D.H.110 crash. My father was persuaded to work on that Saturday, but his friend Ron decided to go. Tragically he was one of the 29 killed on that day.

  25. Our hearts go out to the family and friends of loved ones who so tragically lost their lives at Shoreham on what was a lovely summers day until the awful crash which has affected so many. My daughter and I went to the Bridge of Flowers today, both to place flowers ourselves and to pay our respects to those lost. It was a very sad place but also heartwarming to see memories and pictures of happy times, and also to see how far reaching this tragedy has gone. No words can change what has happened but I hope the families and friends take comfort from the messages of sympathy and love from so many. 34. We are all too accustomed to seeing tragic events reported but sometimes, even if we are not directly affected, a particular event will be especially saddening. Such was the accident at Shoreham. A beautiful day, a happy event suddenly turned into horror. As someone who has had both a lifetime of enthusiasm for aviation and a career that often deals with tragedy, I feel touched by many sides of this accident. I offer deepest sympathies to those who have lost loved ones, fortitude to the injured, thanks to the emergency responders and support for those who will meticulously investigate. May those who have died rest in peace.

  35. My heartfelt sympathies to everyone affected by this awful incident, most especially to those who have lost loved ones. You remain constantly in my thoughts and in my prayers – I feel your pain so much yet I know I can’t really even begin to imagine it. 44. My Condolences to those people who Died in the Shoreham air display, an air show supporter

  45. My husband has been unfortunate enough to witness several flying accidents – but this one has affected him the most, and he could not face tonight’s Bridge of Light act of remembrance in Shoreham. So my son and I went – on his behalf, our own, and that of other family members still too upset to feel able to go. As we drove into Shoreham, it seemed that from every single road we passed came people of all ages – united in grief, and all heading in the same direction. It is our hope that everyone who is grieving can find comfort from the sheer numbers and the sincerity of the people who came to pay their respects. Our thoughts remain with those who died, those who love them, the poor pilot and his family whose anguish is unimaginable – and with everyone who has been affected by this horrendous tragedy. We salute the community of Shoreham for their strength, dignity and reverence – we will never forget what we took part in tonight.

  59. Although I wasn’t there on Saturday 22nd August and don’t know any of the victims of this terrible crash, I have been deeply shocked and saddened by events. My relatives used to run a business in Shoreham and still live only a few miles away inland. On a recent visit this summer, I had walked along the river and cycle path to reach their village rather than take the bus. Such a beautiful, tranquil scene at that time of morning. Who would have imagined that this scene could be shattered just one month later when the aircrash took place ? My heart goes out to the eleven victims of this crash. It strikes me just how damn unlucky they were, the chances of losing their lives in this way must have been minute. They were just ordinary, decent human beings going about their business. My deepest sympathy to the families and friends of all who have died. Let’s hope that pilot Andy Hill pulls through,he is still critically injured. Let’s think too of all those who witnessed the crash or were involved in it but survived, I imagine they will be in a state of shock for a long time and will need much help and support. And we must not forget the brave men and women of the emergency services who raced to the scene, they too must be traumatised by what they have had to see in the line of duty. We should never take them for granted.
I have been very impressed by the way the people of Shoreham and the nearby towns have rallied round at this difficult time, you obviously have a good, strong community.
    Rest In Peace…

    Jacob Schilt
